Some of our positions, by their nature, are in-person local to our properties. These roles make the difference in our guest experiences, and bring the excellence and attention to detail that make arcana truly unique.

Our centralized support teams operate under a hybrid model, where our time is divided between remote work and in-office days. Of course, we also make time to connect with one another in person at our properties.

+ General Manager - Muskoka

Arcana is currently looking for a General Manager who will roll up their sleeves on all aspects of our operations on our Muskoka Location. This role is integral to developing the arcana brand and signature experience, requiring a high-level focus on guest experience, the maintenance of our cabins, and the land they exist on.

To be the right fit for this position, you should be an entrepreneurial leader passionate about crafting memorable guest experiences and building team culture, and possess a relentless desire for continuous operational improvement. Flexibility, adaptability, and creativity is critical in our fast-paced startup environment, no single day will be like the last.

This is about building a ritual worth repeating, a transformative and restorative experience for guests that makes them want to come back over and over again, because one stay is never enough. We’re looking for a hospitality minded individual who will sweat the small details for our guests, but is also able to see the forest from the trees. This is a quintessential start-up role that requires the ideal candidate to dig in and oversee the day-to-day operations of the business, and also possess the experience and expertise to grow alongside the expanding needs of Arcana.

General Manager Responsibilities
  + Oversee all aspects of site operations and on-site guest experience for our Bala arcana site
  + Hire and train a high performing team that outperforms expectations
  + Ability to effectively coach, manage and motivate highly dynamic employees and managers in a high turnover and seasonal environment
  + Deliver arcana budget goals and set other short/long term strategic goals for the property.
  + Create & Closely monitor arcanas business reports on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis and make decisions accordingly.
  + A strong understanding of P&L statements and ability to take initiative and reacts quickly to changing business environment
  + Ensure monthly financial outlooks for cabins, F&B, Administrative, Guest programming are on target and accurate
  + The ability to manage through controlling operating & labour expenses without compromising guest and employee experience
  + Developing improvement actions, carry out cost savings.
  + Responsible for the preparation, presentation and subsequent achievement of arcanas annual operating budget
  + Ensure full compliance to operating controls, SOP’s, policies, procedures and service standards.
  + Create surprise and delight moments for our guests, tailoring to known guest preferences and anticipating unexpressed guest needs
  + Hold regular briefings and meetings with staff and cross functional departments.
  + Handling complaints, and overseeing the service recovery procedures.
  + Manage and develop the arcana management team to ensure career progression and development.

About You
  + University or college degree, business, hospitality degree or hospitality diploma is a plus
  + Minimum of 5  + years experience as a General Manager in hospitality
  + An optimistic, engaging business savvy personality who can strategically collaborate with many stakeholders.
  + Innovative thinking that drives high touch and best in class guest and employee experiences
  + Proven ability to build and lead a high-performing teams
  + Friendly and hospitable with a deep empathy and passion for creating magical experiences for our guests and our future team
  + Strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and ability to think on your feet
  + Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including weekends, holidays and late nights as required
  + Self starter who thrives in an ever-changing, dynamic and people-centric work environment
  + Nature enthusiast who is excited to connect more people with the restorative powers of the wild
  + Up to handle some physical work related to site preparation and management

Work Schedule
  + Flexible hours can include weekends, nights, short shifts and long shifts
  + On call availability in addition to regular hours
  + Two days off per week

Location and transportation
The candidate must have their own transportation and be able to drive to our location.
